Editorial Policy

How we research, write, and review what you read here — and, just as important, what this site cannot do for you.

PsychMentalHealth publishes guides about getting mental health care in Middlesex County and Camden County, New Jersey. People often arrive here at a hard moment, so the standard we hold ourselves to is simple: every claim should be checkable, and nothing should be more confident than the evidence behind it.

We cite primary sources

Facts about coverage, eligibility, phone numbers, and programs come from the organization that runs them or from a government source — not from other content sites. Every guide lists the sources it relies on at the bottom of the page.

We date everything

Each guide shows when it was published and when it was last reviewed. Mental health programs close, phone numbers change, and insurance rules move. A visible review date tells you how fresh the information is.

We write in plain language

If a clinical term matters, we define it the first time we use it. We would rather write a longer sentence than make you look something up mid-paragraph.

We do not take money from providers

No treatment center pays to appear here. We do not sell referrals, run sponsored listings, or accept payment for placement. When we name a provider, it is because it serves the area and the information about it is verifiable.

We correct mistakes in the open

If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it and update the review date. Corrections are part of the job, not an embarrassment.

Who writes this

Guides are researched and written by the PsychMentalHealth editorial team and fact-checked against the sources listed on each page. We are not clinicians, and our articles are not clinically reviewed. We say that plainly because a lot of health sites imply medical authorship they do not have. What we offer is careful, sourced, plain-language explanation of how the system works — not diagnosis, treatment advice, or a clinical opinion about your situation.

What this means for you

Use this site to understand your options, learn the vocabulary, and walk into a first appointment with better questions. Do not use it in place of a licensed professional who can actually assess you. Anything about your specific symptoms, medication, or diagnosis belongs with a clinician.

How we choose what to cover

We write about the questions people actually get stuck on: what the levels of care mean, what insurance covers, what happens in a first session, what to do with no coverage at all, and how to help someone who will not accept help. When a question comes in through the contact form more than once, it usually becomes a guide.

Sourcing standards

We rely on, in rough order of preference:

  • Federal and state agencies — SAMHSA, the National Institute of Mental Health, CMS, and New Jersey state and county departments.
  • The organization that operates a program, for facts about that program.
  • Established nonprofits with subject expertise, such as NAMI.
  • Peer-reviewed research, when a clinical claim needs support.

We avoid citing other content sites, marketing pages for treatment centers, and anything we cannot trace back to a primary source.

Corrections and feedback

Found something wrong, out of date, or missing? Tell us through the contact form. Corrections to facts, phone numbers, and program details get priority.

This site is not a crisis service. We cannot respond to emergencies and we do not monitor messages around the clock. If you need help right now, call or text 988, or call 911 if someone is in immediate danger.
